Portatif = qui présente une taille et un poids réduits, et dispose d'une alimentation électrique autonome par piles ou batteries. Remarque Cette distinction n'est pas toujours clairement faite dans l'usage courant non technique. Ainsi parle-t-on plus volontiers aujourd'hui de téléphone portable que de téléphone portatif, en dépit de la taille et du mode de fonctionnement de cet appareil. ● portatif, portative (expressions) adjectif Autel portatif, pierre consacrée par l'évêque, appelée aussi pierre d'autel, de grandeur suffisante pour y poser la patène et le calice, dans la célébration de la messe, et permettant de célébrer le culte catholique ailleurs que dans une église. Orgue portatif, petit orgue que l'on portait attaché au corps par une courroie.
